A 'River Laboratory' will soon be set up in Varanasi to clean the Ganges. A Rs 1,000 crore MoU was signed between the governments of Denmark and UP for the cleaning of the Ganga and its tributary Varuna during the Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2023 held at the Vrindavan Yojana on Friday.

During a partner country meeting in Denmark held at the GIS Summit, the Danish government pledged to set up a 'smart river laboratory' to ensure a clean, calm and pollution-free Ganga. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Jal Shakti Swatantra Minister Dev Singh and Danish Government Minister for Cooperation, Development and Global Climate Policy Dan Jorgensen.

"India is emerging as a world power and Uttar Pradesh is the strength of India. We look forward to working with the UP government under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath," Jorgensen said. Speaking about the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, which focuses on sectors like renewable energy, water, environment, circular economy and smart cities, he said, “This strategic partnership sets the direction based on scale, skills, speed, scope and sustainability.”

He said, "The relationship and bond between India and Denmark is decades old. Even in challenging times like the Covid-19 pandemic, both governments have supported each other." Singh said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is continuously working with Denmark to protect the environment through green partnerships.
